Beyond Separation uses an innovative approach and interactive learning modalities to expand white-identified participants’ capacities. This approach includes:

  • Keeping the focus on race through an intersectional lens

  • Studying and discussing the history of racism in the U.S

  • Practicing courageous and challenging conversations with new tools

  • Embracing kinesthetic activities. Because implicit biases live in our bodies, we must engage the whole person in our work

  • Trusting in our inherent impulses toward healing and wholeness

  • Giving ourselves permission to feel, express, and track emotional reactions

  • Practicing together- sitting with discomfort, making mistakes, and accepting obstacles as an intrinsic part of healing and creating racial justice

  • Cultivating a mindfulness practice to support our process of waking up
